Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is a bilingual charter school serving an economically disadvantaged Hispanic population with over 90 percent of our students receiving free or reduced meals. Our school has around 400 students, due to its small size we get to know the children and their parents. Many of whom suffer from different hardships.
My students are four and five years old ready to take on the world.
My PK4 students are determined, clever, loving, and intuitive children. They are very curious about their world that surrounds them and they learn very quickly at this age. The children need to be exposed to a print rich environment.
My Project
Crafts are a must in preschool. My students learn best when we do a craft in order to learn the letters of the alphabet. Therefore, I am requesting a simple die cut machine, alphabet dies, and number dies, which makes easy punch out letters and numbers. The die cut machine is safe enough for my students to use and it will help the students and I be more efficient.
The simple die cut machine will allow us to easily cut alphabet letters, and numbers out of construction paper, card-stock, and a different array of materials.
The children will use the letter cut outs to build their name, and cvc words to do a craft like a lion for the letter l. The number cut outs can be use to recognize the numbers, play memory games, and to match the number cut out to the correct amount of items.
Learning letters in a print rich environment with meaningful connections and instruction is ideal. The die cut machine will allow us to make word walls, bulletin boards, and label the classroom with the students in order to enhance their learning experience.
