This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are mainly English language learners. They are all from economically disadvantaged homes. Many have parents who do not speak English well or at all. They have very low reading scores and comprehension levels. Only a few are on level readers.

All of my students, ESL and low-income, want to read and learn but have not had the experiences to do so.

Their vocabulary is limited by their current experiences. It is important to give them the opportunity to learn!

My Project

Students spend a lot of time copying information to use when needed. This is mainly done while they are on the carpet. They will copy this information from anchor charts displayed on an easel.

My students will use the clipboards to copy information held on the easel for reference into further knowledge.

Currently, I have to attach the chart to the wall and they have to use a book to steady their paper. Having clipboards on which to write allows them to concentrate on the words, not on balancing their papers! Having an easel gives me flexibility to move it around the room where it can best be seen.
