Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are bright, curious, creative, funny, compassionate, and just wonderful unique young adults. They choose to learn Spanish, the language of their ancestors that they've heard growing up at home and in the community and show great pride in their heritage. They want to be able to speak just like their grandparents, relatives, neighbors, and friends do.

Our classroom becomes a safe and relaxed environment to help students take risks and have fun learning Spanish language and culture.

Our lessons ask students to move around the classroom, work on the floor, and collaborate to have as many opportunities to practice the language used in real-life settings every day.

Our community is immersed in the Hispanic cultural heritage that is part of students' origins and by learning Spanish language and culture our youth discover and understand their own identities, and develop stronger ties with their families and communities.

My Project

Having flexible seating options allows students to relax at a higher level and focus more on learning and using Spanish in different ways.

On a daily basis, students develop skits and dialogues with peers representing real-life scenarios and having stools with rolling wheels allows them to feel comfortable and move around easily.

Stools take less space than regular chairs and allow us to have more open space for floor work and movement.

Also, when I surveyed students asking how we could improve our classroom setting, many said to have rolling and comfortable seating instead of traditional stationary chairs that we have.
