Learning Spaces To Accelerate Reading

My students need a learning table for small group reading instruction and bins to keep their materials organized and close at hand.

My Students

My students range from Kindergarten through third grade. They come to me for 40 minutes of focused intentional learning at their individualized reading level. My students are smart and capable children who come to us with a deficit in language due to circumstances beyond their control. Our school is located in an urban district with 99% of our children qualifying for free and reduced-price lunches. We have a diverse community of children with a high population of English Language Learners. Our children come from great challenges but show a resilience for learning. As with many districts ours is suffering from budget cuts that limit our resources. Quality education is the key for our children to conquer generational poverty.

My Project

Working in a high-poverty school many students come to us with a deficit in the preliminary skills for reading success. I am blessed to have the opportunity to work with the children who are struggling most to provide small group instruction in reading. My students need a comfortable space to gather in small groups for these reading interventions. When we come to the table the students will have a short lesson on reading strategies followed by the opportunity to practice the skill in a book. These lessons are crucial to supporting struggling readers in there journey to independent reading.

Having a comfortable table will provide us with the best place to achieve our reading goals.

The children are eager to take on the challenge and having a specified area for this instruction will aid them in reaching their goal of independent reading. Please consider supporting my students to achieve life long learning through independent reading!
