Learning Reading With Music

My students need an MP3 player, computer speakers and CDs in order to listen to silly songs to help improve math and reading skills.

I teach children in first, second and third grade who have Learning Disabilities.

My students attend The Learning Lab in order to work on improving math and reading skills. We live in a low socio-economic region and have over half of our students' are on the free or reduced lunch program. Resources are hard to come by and I would like to continue to provide unique and entertaining ways to teach my students' the life skills that they struggle with.

My Project

Music is a universal equalizer, we all connect with it and find something valuable within the songs that we hear. I would like to introduce and reinforce basic skills through music. Music is also a very calming influence, I would like to provide students' with ADHD personal headsets to use when they need quiet time to complete assignments without interruptions.

Children who attend my lab have already experienced lessons presented in the usual ways and have had limited success.

By providing new, exciting and stimulating lessons, I hope to reach them and teach them basic concepts in reading and math. All children deserve to feel the pride that success provides. Please help me use music as an alternative approach to their education.
