I am a kindergarten teacher at an elementary school in San Francisco's Chinatown district. My students are energetic 5-year-olds who are second language learners, learning English as their second language. The majority of my students live in one-room apartments or studios and lack space and resources. My students love to come to school. Every day they are curious and excited to learn. Since my students are second language learners, they need many different learning experiences to develop their English. Having a variety of activities gives them opportunities to learn English. The materials I am requesting are spell-a-word boards, spelling and word cards, and storage bins. These activities will help my students develop their alphabet knowledge, associate words with objects and recognize words. Having various manipulatives will help my students develop their English language. Each year I have 20 students. These materials will last many years and help many little 5-year-olds learn and develop their English.
