Our school is located in the small town of Ocean Springs, MS. Our school population is approximately 1,400 fourth through sixth graders. I teach 6th grade mathematics. My students are eager to improve their grasp of mathematical skills.
Do you remember doing worksheet after worksheet to learn your math facts and concepts?
Wouldn't you have enjoyed math more if you were able to learn via a math magazine and computer technology. We will have many computerized activities and lessons to enhance knowledge of the mathematical world. Through active participation in the learning process, students will achieve a higher level of understanding.
My students are vivacious learners who come to school each day full of energy! At our school, our students come from very diverse backgrounds. Many of our students come from low-income families that do not always have access to learning materials; this means that opportunities to get technology into their hands are even more important!
My Project
In today’s economy, it’s harder than ever to find the funds for supplemental educational materials. And many of our students’ families can’t afford to help bring these motivating resources into the classroom. Scholastic MATH® is a magazine I’d like to get for every student in my class.
Each issue teaches them important math skills with current articles I know each student will be excited to read. In every issue, we’ll see how math relates to and solves real-world problems, with articles on topics like architectural wonders and movie-making. Plus, practice questions and explanations teach the related math skills my students will need in school and beyond. With your contribution, we’ll get 30 issues (a classroom set) of Scholastic MATH® magazine and access to the NEW AND IMPROVED MATH website, featuring fun videos and learning games.
