Learning Math and Reading While Eating

My students need appliances (a refrigerator and oven) in the classroom so that we can take what they're learning in reading and math and make application of those principles practical.

My Students

The classroom for this project represents special education programming for students who need specially designed instruction in all areas of their education. All spend a small part of their day with their general education peers. Once the kids have completed that part of their day, they return to my classroom for instruction in the areas in which they cannot access grade level curriculum. Many curricular materials are shared between K-2 and 3-5 center based classrooms.

Well-liked and included within the whole school community, our students are ready to immerse themselves in the challenges of learning about life, and sharing that learning with their peers.

The students are loving and caring, and our classroom's mission is to help prepare them for their world.

My Project

We'll be creating cooking projects that the kids can take back to their general education classrooms to share. During the last school year, we shared pie, yogurt, hand-made Pop Tarts and other foods with the office and nursing staff. And students from their general education classrooms wanted in?

With a functioning refrigerator and oven, we'll be able to collect and store recipe ingredients, mix and cook them for classmates.

My students have the imagination, they have the passion for learning things that help them help others. Help allow us to make the fun recipes, mix them up in our room and finish them in our classroom. Thank you.
