Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I want my students to love reading and learning as much as I do. To get them there, they need books. Not just any books, books on their level, books that will make them feel proud when they read them by themselves. I want my students to be on or above grade level in reading by the end of the year.
I am a teacher at a high poverty school.
Most of my students have very little resources at home (food, paper, pencil, crayons, etc...). Our school is 100% free and reduced lunch. For some of our students, the breakfast and lunch they get at school are the only meals they get. My goal is to help my students become successful so they can move on and graduate high school and college. I believe the foundation starts in kindergarten.
In order to make them successful, they need to learn to read. I am seeking a classroom library that will instill a love of reading and learning. My students have a true desire to learn, they just need the resources to make it happen.
My Project
A classroom library, that is on grade level, will help my students develop their reading skills. I believe being on level is important as they will feel accomplished in reading a book on their own for the first time. When a student feels truly happy about something they accomplished, they want to continue to do it. These books will also help them learn about the foundations of reading and reading skills needed to be successful.
Right now, the books in our classroom are above level, but they are all I have.
My students cannot read or enjoy the books. All they can do is look at the pictures. This does not help develop their reading. Your donations will help foster their love of reading and learning and help them be successful students that will hopefully lead to them becoming successful adults.
