I teach in a resource room unit for children who are diagnosed with Autism. My students stay with me all day and I teach all subjects as well as social and adaptive skills. Our school is a Title I school and all of our students receive free lunch. Six of my boys are nonverbal/limited verbal and being able to express themselves and show me what they are learning gives all of them an outlet that doesn't require words.
My students are the highlight of my day and they want to always do their best!
They require many different types of learning materials as well as materials that are diverse in the style/type of learning. I serve students who are learning at a rate that is developmentally lower than their same age peers. Having materials that allow them to use their hands to learn basic concepts gives them independence and engages them in their learning.
My Project
Hands-on and ready made interactive activities like the Word Work Folder games, Number and Counting File Folder games, Addition Facts Folder games, and Subtraction folder games allow my students to learn while having fun.
My students love to learn!
Having being diagnosed with Autism, my students need developmentally appropriate activities that keep them interested in learning like the snap and build sight words, Early language Activity set, and Time and Money mats. The items we have chose will, not only work on the kids academic (reading and math) skills, but will also help with their fine motor skills and social skills.
