Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are middle school students in grades 6th, 7th, and 8th. Many come from very low socioeconomic status homes. We are in an inner city, rough neighborhood in the 5th largest school district in the nation. Large school districts do not mean there is a lot of money for education. Honestly, it's the total opposite of that. It means less money for education.
I need your help to bring these robots to life for my students.
Please help make my student's education more meaningful. It will make a huge difference in their lives.
My Project
My classes are learning what it is like to work as engineers. First they study what all the different kinds of engineers do in their real day to day jobs and my students make brochures on each of the different types of engineers. Then they design, build, program, and compete with a variety of different types of robots. As they go through this engineering process, they need to write down and document what they are doing, diagram what their robots look like, draw and write up their programs, and map out the competition. This will help them understand even more what it is like to be a real engineer.
