Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a wonderful group of middle school students with intellectual disabilities who benefit greatly from structured opportunities to practice social and life skills. Many of my students are still learning how to take turns, follow directions, communicate with peers, and work as part of a team. They are eager to connect with others, and they thrive when learning feels fun, interactive, and meaningful. Games and hands-on activities provide the perfect opportunity to teach these essential skills in a natural and engaging way. With materials like board games, matching activities, puzzles, and hands-on crafts, students will be able to practice patience, cooperation, problem-solving, and communication while actively participating and enjoying the experience.

This project focuses on building social-emotional and life skills through play-based learning.

Each game and activity will be used to model and reinforce skills like turn-taking, following rules, managing emotions, and working collaboratively with others. These are critical skills that help students succeed not only in school, but in everyday life. By creating a structured, supportive, and engaging environment, students will gain confidence, strengthen peer relationships, and develop independence. With your support, my classroom will become a space where students learn how to interact, connect, and grow together.
