Students at my school come from a working class neighborhood that is very well integrated. They are every color of the rainbow and come from multiple backgrounds. One thing that they have in common is that many of their families are working multiple jobs and having trouble making ends meet.
Teachers, counselors, and other staff members frequently purchase basic need items for students who are not able to receive them from their families.
This school uses a program of catching students doing the right thing. There is an ongoing conversation about "being a bucket filler" by doing good things. They receive incentive "bucks" for good behavior and deeds.
I want my students to have the same fun, exciting and wonderful experiences I had when I was in school. School should be fun and safe for all students to learn.
With some many students not understanding grammar skills in class, we need new books to go along with our new Mentor Sentences. Each student will get a notebook to store all of the activities in.
We will be pulling sentences from these stories to help students with Language Arts skills in the classroom.
Students will be doing daily activities with the books. We will have a read aloud, then sentences on the board. Students will be looking at parts of speech, editing, and improving sentence with descriptive words, and then creating their own new sentence to add to the story.
