My students walk into our classroom every day eager to see what adventures are in store for us. I teach 25 graders who all come from culturally diverse backgrounds; after all, there are over twenty different languages spoken in my school. Some of my students just came to America without knowing any letters of the alphabet, numbers, or experience being in a school setting. Our school is a Title I school, seeing as 100% of the students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.
Our classroom is a very exciting environment!
Our classroom is Disney themed, and we follow mottos like Just Keep Swimming and To Infinity and Beyond. My students learn best when working in small groups and engaging in hands-on activities - which is a challenge coming back to school post-pandemic. I want to make sure my students are returning to that happy, safe and bright classroom environment they are used to!
My Project
The At-Home Learning Kit will be very useful for my second grade students! The 2020-2021 school year has been very challenging for students to develop a sense of consistency. Using these learning kits will help allow students to bridge the gap between learning in the classroom and learning at home. Each kit will allow students to have materials they can use in order to be successful in their learning. With social distancing restrictions, each student is missing out on the ability to use manipulatives in the classroom that can help improve their understanding. These kits will allow students to put the learning in their own hands and provide them with a sense of normalcy in the classroom.
