Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach underprivileged bilingual students. My students are from a Title I school where all students get free lunch due to a low-income area. Most are limited English learners that are adjusting to American life. I enjoy teaching them because I am able to connect to their upbringing and families. Our school was recently reopened this school year after being closed for two years due to low enrollment. We had many meetings and neighborhood walks to encourage our families to sign up for our school. In my classroom, I love how my students enjoy friendly competitions with each other as we are learning by the use of games.
My Project
My students will be engaged while learning. Why you asked? I love using game boards and puzzles to get students motivated while working in an activity and I'm requesting Connect 4, Charades for Kids, and a Classic Games Set.
Imagine as Frida sits at my table during small group instruction learning fractions.
She is attentive and on task. It is her turn to show me what she learned. She works diligently and gets her work correct. Her reward is getting a turn in tic-tac-toe. Jose seeing this motivates him to do well so he can get a turn. Jorge seeing this also gets motivated and asks questions since he has difficulty solving the problem.
Through games, I have found that students are more engaged.
I also am asking for canvas panels, tissue paper squares, and white cardstock for other fun projects.
