My curious kindergartners need 9 items such as Story Wands, Lakeshore Storytelling Kits, Circle Time Recordings, felt boards, and song posters. The kids are eager to learn to read and with fun interactive reading centers it will make reading even more interesting for them!
My students have shown a need for interactive reading centers that they can use each day. Some of my students struggle with letter sound recognition, reading comprehension, phonics, and basic sight words. The students need reading materials that will actively engage them in learning to read. Sometimes they don't grasp the phonics and letter-sound concepts until they are able to feel and touch actual letters or hear the stories on a CD.
I believe that the interactive reading centers will provide students with the hands on ability to connect with what they have been learning on paper to their five senses! Once a child can see the letters in action, hear the stories, and touch the puppets/characters they make lasting reading connections. Furthermore, I want early learners to fall in love with reading and literature which I know they will as they interact and engage with the reading centers. The felt story boards will be used to help children create their own stories, the comprehension wands will help children understand what they have learned and help them retain the information they have heard from the stories. The nursery rhyme stories with the sing-a-long CD will help children connect music to reading and also help build their fluency and comprehension. The students will also get a chance to connect math to literature with the entertaining books that focus on early math skills. In addition, students that are struggling with comprehension skills will benefit from the set of stories with puppets/characters. Overall, these interactive reading centers will help assist struggling readers and foster a life-long love for reading.
Your help would assist my students being able to have engaging hands-on reading centers that will help build their comprehension, fluency, letter-sound recognition, and phonemic awareness. The students would get to use one reading center each day in small groups on a rotating basis. The students would get to create their own stories using the felt story boards, listen and sing-along to nursery rhymes, as well as listen and hold characters from the stories. These centers will help build essential reading strategies that the students will use all of their lives.
Your help will make it possible for reading to come alive to my Kindergartners! The students are so excited to learn and having engaging interactive reading centers will help foster a life-long love for reading. My students need tactile ways to make reading connect to their everyday lives. Being able to hold characters from the stories, create their own stories using felt characters, and use the comprehension story wands to help them remember what they have read, will help them retain what they have learned and make connections to everyday reading.
