This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are a group of energetic, busy kindergarteners with special needs or delays. Most of my students come from military families stationed in Hawaii or local families. Since we are a Title I school, we have a considerable percentage of students from low-income families.
For this amazing group of kindergarteners, there is no challenge big enough; they come to school every day excited to grow, learn something new, and work hard towards the accomplishment of their goals.
Our classroom is a Resource special education classroom and my students require specialized, small-group instruction, resources, and hands-on materials to address their academic needs and continue to develop social and emotional skills, that have been affected ever since the COVID-19 pandemic. They require engaging and novel materials, and multiple opportunities to regain those skills, catch up, collaborate with peers, and access the curriculum as they meet the standards for their age.
The stools will provide my students with appropriate seating at the Teacher Table to promote collaboration and support when working during small-group instruction. The rest of the materials, such as magnetic sight words and letters, scissors, and whiteboards will help them practice kindergarten skills like fine motor skills, phonological awareness, and letter recognition, among others.
The resources will be an important part of our small-group instruction as they will definitely help accelerate my amazing kindergarteners' academic and social emotional learning.
