My Students

I work at a Title I school right outside San Francisco with five special day classes with students in preschool to 4th grade. My students are a fun bunch of diverse kids who love school and enjoy learning. They come to me with various skill levels and disabilities that can inhibit their learning but together we find ways to celebrate and share their differences within our school community.

My students are silly, kind to one another and love to explore the world around them.

My students learn in different ways and my classroom gives them a place to do so. We create, dance and laugh our way through our school days allowing each student to feel successful.

My Project

My students are used to routines and structures; this can make them reluctant to try new experiences - including new foods. The class, as a whole, are incredibly picky eaters, partly because of this reluctance. No matter the best efforts of families and staff, my students consistently refuse to try new food, often stuck eating the same unhealthy food every day.

My students need an engaging way to learn about new foods, so that they are no longer scared to try them.

Reading the new books during circle time or free time will allow them to experience new, healthier foods without actually having to eat them. The cookbooks will let the kids create and become more familiar with the foods they have learned about. The familiarity will hopefully abate my students’ fears, allowing them to feel more comfortable as they try a new food. Please help me ensure my kids will live healthier and more adventurous diets.
