Learning in Motion: Flexible Learning

My Students

Curious, inquisitive, hardworking, just a few of the qualities I admire about my students. Developing a comfortable environment for learning to take place in, especially during such a critical transition period from elementary to middle school, is extremely important.

Teaching children in the 21st century has shifted our role from being the 'instructor' to facilitating students to construct their own learning. To give students control and responsibility for their learning, the facilitator must have the structure, organization, and tools to engage students and build their confidence as lifelong learners. My goal is to give my students an environment in which they are engaged and active, feel comfortable and relaxed, and are excited about learning. My goal is to provide a flexible learning environment for the students in my classes.

My Project

It is my greatest hope to create a comfortable learning environment for all my students. Some of their favorite choices include sitting around a low to the ground table on yoga bolster pillows, padded office chairs, excersize balls allowing them to bounce and use their core strength, and yoga mats. When you are comfortable in your environment, both physically and emotionally, your brain is ready to learn.

Every individual has different needs, desires and understandings. Why wouldn't we provide a variety of seating options, creating an environment with this in mind? Students should have the resources and the space to support how they learn best. My hope is to empower them to take charge of their learning.
