My students need a flip video camcorder and a Powershot digital camera to capture all of the exciting learning in our Kindergarten Classroom.

My Students
It is amazing the growth that takes place in a Kindergarten year. Teachers capture growth as evidence of learning and document it daily, much of this is done as written assessments. There are so many authentic opportunities to capture learning on film to use as data and to share with families.
I am a Kindergarten/Grade 1 Looping teacher.
I currently have 20 Kindergarten students who will remain in my class for two years. We are a school-wide Title 1 school in an urban neighborhood and our community is challenged economically. My students are culturally diverse, from countries all over the world. Many of my students struggle academically and require extra support in fundamentals.
My Project
Our school is an Expeditionary Learning school. My students are engaged in 1 or 2 learning expeditions each year. These expeditions immerse students in learning in an authentic and engaging way-Sparking interests and encouraging wonder for all. One of the most meaningful ways to capture learning is to get it on film. With a quality digital camera and a flip camcorder in my classroom, I will have the necessary resources to document growth, capture images and share evidence of student learning and development. One of the elements of a learning expedition is for students to produce a high quality final product. This year my students will be performing a class play. It would be so powerful to record our practice performances and watch back as a class to critique and also to record the final performance for students to keep. I try to document each expedition with a digital time line to see the layers in learning during an expedition and a digital camera is crucial.
Support of this project would provide my students with real documentation of their learning and growth in their early fundamental years.
Capturing images, uploading them and sharing them with families on a web site or using them in a class book or as data for student portfolios is so powerful. My students love to see themselves on film and are so eager to show for the camera what they've got! They would also have the power to use the images as evidence in student led conferences and portfolios
