Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our middle school has just begun to introduce Computer Science to all of our students. As part of the Computer Science class, we would to incorporate 3D printers, as well as, video game design.

The materials that are listed would help build this program that would carry us for many, many years.

We will incorporate all of the items into lessons and by doing so will be preparing our students with skills for the future. For example, the KittenBot MeowBits will be used in collaboration with makecode arcade. Makecode is an online resource offered through Microsoft, where students can create video games using a variety of computer languages. Once students have successfully created their game, they can bring it to a MeowBit and have friends and family play the game they created. Along with video game design, our school offers a video game club after school. The Nintendo Switch would be a great addition to this club. The club currently has 20 students of different economic demographics that share an interest in video games.

Students will be allowed to see their creativity come to life and will be able to hold a piece of a memory from their childhood with their 3D models. The 3D printers would be a great addition to our classroom, as we would use them along with the online resource Tinkercad. Students will begin to venture out into the world of engineering as they design and create solutions for everyday problems. For example, once students are familiar with the program, they will create a 3D model of an improvement to help a teacher in their class. Such as a pencil holder, door stop, nameplate, etc. Students will ultimately work towards building a cone to a rocket that is functional.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
