Martin Luther King Jr. has become a common classroom "hero," but there are so many other leaders and thinkers that deserve our attention. Help my students learn about men and women from a variety of cultures that have invented, explored, and fought for freedom and equality.
Our students are curious, energetic, and diverse.
Our school aims to honor their curiosity with a curriculum that is engaging, relevant, and multi-faceted. Every unit must take into account the diversity of background, diversity of learning style, and diversity of thought that is represented in our student body. Every cluster creates it's own curriculum that meets the grade level standards in a unique way, with the undercurrent being a focus on respect, critical thinking, and personal responsibility.
My Project
Start to Finish - it is our classroom theme and it shapes our science and social studies inquiries. What better way to learn how individuals can cause change in the world than to learn about the important contributions of courageous and brilliant men and women of all different backgrounds? The biography book sets, giant world map, and organizational bins will enrich our social studies curriculum and teach our students about growth and change in a whole new way.
It is important that students have academic skills. It is even more important that they are compassionate and deep thinking members of society and that they love learning. Help us provide the experiences that can make it happen. Thank you!
Our goal in studying great thinkers is to inspire our students to see qualities of greatness in themselves so they feel inspired to dream and accomplish their own goals.
We will teach them greatness can be small and localized, and that it comes from the heart, making it available to all human beings.
