I have 22 amazing and busy first-grade kiddos this year. My kids love to learn and are hard workers. While we have everything we need, these supplies would help our classroom become a more comfortable and fun place to learn for my active class.
I teach in a Title I school, where 100% of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and supper.
Despite the economic hardships of our community, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They come ready to learn each day with a great attitude. They support each other and look out for each other.
By offering new and different ways to learn, students will be more successful and be able to learn more.
My Project
These foam dice and books will be shared by our first grade classrooms to keep learning fun and engaging for our students. The cart will allow us to keep all of our new resources organized and mobile for everyone to use. Our team of first grade teachers is working together to meet the needs of our students who are not reaching grade level standards by creating fun new ways to get students excited about learning.
Foam dice are an incredible resource for first grade students because they are able to practice many math concepts in a much quieter environment.
This allows students to be able to concentrate better and learn more. We use the dice to play games, practice addition skills, work on greater than and less than, and to practice our sight words. Students are able to practice working on many different math standards with dice.
These new leveled books will allow students to find books they are interested in when it is time for them to practice reading independently. With these easier books students who do not think of themselves as "readers" will see success in their reading. By building our students confidence and joy in reading, we are able to get students excited to read and learn.
