Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in a low socioeconomic neighborhood where 100% of the students receive free lunch. My class is very diverse; it consists of Latin and Asian English learners, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodians, and Filipinos.

Even when faced Covid-19 and distance learning my students are always enthusiastic and eager to learn.

There are many different living arrangements and family structures within my students' families. They are scholars who understand the importance of hard work and perseverance, and they always try their best to reach their goals. Their parents are eager and will do all they can to try to give their children the very best education possible at home. They also rely on our school and our teachers to help fulfill their American Dream, since they spend most of their time working to provide for the family.

My Project

During this difficult time of virtual learning my students need essential art materials to continue to learn about their own culture. They will use the Family People Shapes, Jumbo People Shapes and other art materials to create a family portrait emphasizing their cultures and traditions.

This Family Portrait will give my students and their family opportunities to showcase their cultures and traditions through art.

The Magic Craft puffs and wiggly eyes will be use to enhance their family portrait. The Rainbow Scratch Paper will allow the family to learn and talk about the arts in their culture and the family can use this scratch paper to create an art piece.
