Learning Comes to Life With a Mobile Easel

Help me give my students a double-sided mobile easel that will make read-alouds and literacy lessons more interactive, visible, and engaging.

My Project

First graders learn best when they can see, hear, discuss, and actively participate in a lesson. A double-sided mobile easel would create a central, interactive learning space where students can gather for read-alouds, shared writing, phonics practice, and whole-group literacy instruction.

During read-alouds, I will use the easel to display books, record student thinking, introduce vocabulary, sequence story events, and create anchor charts about characters, settings, problems, and solutions.

Students will be able to contribute ideas, respond to questions, and see their thinking captured in real time. The magnetic and writing surfaces will also support hands-on activities with letters, words, sentence strips, and story elements.

Because the easel is mobile and double-sided, it can easily move between our whole-group meeting area and small-group learning spaces. One side can hold an anchor chart or instructional display while the other is used for modeling and student participation. This flexibility will help me keep materials organized and lessons moving smoothly.

Most importantly, the easel will help turn literacy instruction into an active experience rather than something students simply watch. It will give my first graders more opportunities to participate, share their thinking, and interact with texts while building comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, and writing skills.
