Learning Centers for Kindergarten Kiddos!

My Students

The students at my school are from a rural farm community. We have a small school at the edge of a large corporation. Our students come from all socioeconomic backgrounds. We are lucky to have great families that work hard and are involved in our school events, but we don't get a lot of extra funding from the state. This is due to our school not qualifying as a Title I school. Title I schools have a higher level of free and reduced-price lunches than we currently have.

My sweet kiddos are hard workers, but they have lots of extra energy and thrive during hands-on activities.

We try to keep moving around our classroom several times throughout the day to help with this. I also have tried to incorporate a flexible seating environment to keep their little bodies wiggling, while engaged in learning, while at our seats. We have had a lot of success when we use hands-on manipulatives and activities.

I love to provide learning opportunities that will get my students moving, thinking, and stimulating their learning by creating.

My Project

My project is for some new learning center activities for my kindergarten students. They love center time and I love that while they are busy working and learning, I can work with small groups of students in my Reading Groups. I want these activities to be fun for them, so they don't even realize they are learning too! The fishing for letters and high frequency words is so neat and my kids will love to do that in our classroom. We have a few sets of the Magnetic Letters and we need a few more so that all my students can find the letters they need to build words. Sorting is also a big kindergarten skill and we need some more fun activities to practice that with in our classroom. These learning kits will help us do that with hands-on learning.

I want meaningful learning activities that keep my students engaged and learning, while I am working with my small reading groups.

These activities will do that job to keep my kids learning and busy, while I work on specific skills that each of my reading groups need.
