My students need flexible bands for their chairs, a classroom map and carpet, flexible seating couch, and a globe for our travel theme classroom.

My Students

My students at WPE are 54% African American, 15% Caucasian, 14% Hispanic, and 10% Multicultural. At WPE, 15% of students have IEPs and 14% of students are English Language Learners. Ninety-three percent of WPE students are on subsidized lunch. According to Oklahoma Standards, 40% of students are proficient in Math and/or Reading. My students are eager to learn even though they may face many life challenges. My students are expected to be responsible, honorable, and prepared to succeed so they will be successful throughout all aspects of their lives no matter what their dreams may be.

My Project

After visiting the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, I was inspired to bring joy back into the classroom and therefor inspire and motivate my first grade students to be anything they wish to be in the world. I wish for my first grade students that they feel the joy and love to learn beyond the classroom.

I believe that my travel themed classroom will give students inspiration to learn and take them anywhere in the world.

I envision maps, globes, post cards, etc, along with flexible seating will help my students get the joy, hope, and wonder back into learning so they can be successful adults in the future.
