My Students

The students in my classroom come from all areas of the city of Milwaukee. Our school serves around 220 students. My school is rich in cultural diversity and we work hard to recognize and celebrate all cultures in our school. Because of their socioeconomic status, all students receive free breakfast and lunch at our school. Few school supplies are asked for because we know it is difficult for families to purchase these materials. The teachers at my school, including myself, do everything we can to meet the needs of the students that we serve.

My students are active, creative and have a love for trying new things and using their imagination.

My classroom serves a mix of regular education students as well as those with special needs. I believe strongly that inclusion helps all children to learn. I am excited to work with this age level of children and channel their creativity to help them to achieve academic success.

My Project

The literacy and math materials will be used in small group activities so that the children will each have their own materials to help give them that hands-on learning development time. The 3 Letter Word Building Puzzles will be used after the children learn letters and sounds and are now ready to put them together to create everyday words. The Magnetic Shape Sorting Rods will be used to help increase the sense of shapes that they see in their community.

These materials will be used to help support academic growth as well as promote growth in social skills.

The other items will be used during the children's free-choice time at the end of each day to help promote learning and encourage social skills and interaction with others.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
