Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school strives to instill each student with a positive attitude toward the self and learning. We serve students in grades K-8. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school and beyond.
My students are first and second graders who receive special education services for a variety of needs including ADHD, learning disabilities, Autism, and other health impairments.
In our classroom we work together to help everyone succeed. They are predominately Latino and English language learners and live in low income environments - but that doesn't mean they aren't eager to learn.
My Project
Winters are long here in Wisconsin and my students have spent many months inside. Countless days of indoor recess has taken its toll on my students, and I'll admit, it's done a number on me too. But you can help us get a little more exercise, sunshine and fresh air once the weather finally cooperates!
The sports balls will be used in lessons for my kinesthetic learners; bean bags, giant dice and Toss Across games will be utilized in math skills practice; chalk will let us work on spelling and fine motor skills; a pump to keep the balls inflated and a bag to store it all in my tiny, but active classroom.
I'm hoping these items will help me jazz up some of my math, reading and writing lessons - all while helping the students get a little more fresh air and exercise.
I do my best to make learning fun for my students, but I also know that when they go home, they spend a lot of time in front of the TV or on a tablet. This project will also help my students work their little bodies, as well as their minds.
