Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first-grade students are hungry to learn new concepts and create deeper understandings. They are creative and innovative. They are fearless thinkers who know no boundaries. They also have about a 5-10 attention span! These 6 year-olds have a lot of energy and need for movement throughout the day. I have students who have ADHD, Autism, and IEPs. Every child has their own learning style, which includes their seating preferences.
Flex seating will promote student choice and increase motivation in the classroom.
Unfortunately, our classroom has very stagnant seating options that do not benefit the individual needs of the students.
My Project
Flex seating in my classroom will promote positive social-emotional learning. It will empower my students because they will have the opportunity to choose their own seating preferences. Some students enjoy moving around while they are learning. Some students enjoy a fun, comfy, and cozy chair while reading. Giving my students the choice tells them I care about their needs.
Connections before content!
My students need seating options conducive to their learning styles. I whole-heartedly believe that having the flex seating environment will not only improve classroom learning, but will also build a stronger classroom community because of the choice, movement, collaboration, sensory input, and movement it provides.
