My students need a high quality webcam that is compatible with PC and MAC computers and a portable speaker to expand our learning beyond the four walls of our classroom.
Why limit our learning to the classroom when we can learn from the world around us? We have a few classrooms (second and third grade classes) as well as real life authors, artists, and other professionals that we plan to Skype, but our computer does not have a webcam.
Our world is highly interactive, so why should our classroom be any different?
My students learn best when engaged in a topic and provided with project choices, such as creating a video presentation or taking still photos to represent their learning. Our class has students from all over the world and they want to learn and interact with people from different places and cultures. They also love learning about how to use new technology. My students will learn about different parts of the world, along with many cultures this year. My goal is to provide the students with the opportunity to communicate with others and collaborate with them on various topics.
My Project
With this webcam and Skype in the classroom, the opportunities are endless! My students will have the opportunity to learn from and teach other students from all around the world. Students will pen pal with some of these students and have the opportunity to interview other classes about topics we are studying. In addition, students will be able to meet the authors of books they read in class and interview different professionals about their careers. Even further, the webcam provides us the fun opportunity to create videos as part of a classroom project using the webcam's editing software. When a video is complete, the students will transfer the video and present it to the class, using the iPad and portable speaker.
With this webcam (which doubles as a video camera with tripod connector) and portable speaker, the students will use this technology for multiple projects.
We are not limited to video conferencing, but can use these for project-based studies. Our class, and future classes, will learn how to apply technology in many practical ways!
