Help me give my students new small group materials to practice literacy skills such as letter name and sound knowledge, as well as rhyming, alliteration, and the beginning stages of reading.
My students, 2 sets of 20 (am & pm), are lucky enough to be in an inclusion classroom. This means we have students who are typically developing and others who receive special education services.
My students are energetic, eager to learn, and accepting of each other.
Many of my students are new to the country, and both they and their family members are learning English as a second language. Giving my students an authentic experience is something I strive for in my classroom.
My Project
I recently visited another PreK classroom and was amazed at what the teacher was able to do with her literacy small groups. Each group was not only differentiated to meet the needs of her students, but the materials themselves were different.
The materials I have chosen will allow students to have fun learning literacy skills no matter what stage of learning they are in.
The Launch and Learn Game Set will allow students to work with a teacher or with a group of peers on specific literacy. The Word Building Puzzles and Word Builder Set is great for my students who are ready to begin sounding out and reading words. Materials like the Alphabet Rockets and Bubbles will provide additional practice in other centers throughout the room.
