This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As my students walk into the classroom, they are ready and eager to learn. Every day they share how much they enjoy coming to school. I want them to feel safe and know they can accomplish anything if they apply themselves. I teach at a school where it's income based and many of the children receive backpack food for the weekend.
My students come from different cultural backgrounds and I try to meet each student’s needs.
Regardless of their backgrounds, my students are excited to learn. They want to do their best in school and achieve their goals in life.
My Project
The materials that I have requested within this project will serve my students well as we take on "Learning & Recognizing". We will be focusing on identifying letters, numbers, shapes and colors. The students will be able to use different items from this project in several centers. The "Float & Find" alphabet and number kits can be used in our water table. We will take our learning to our classroom centers as they play alone side their peers and myself as we will discuss rather a float displays a letter or number, identify what the letter or number is as well as focus on the reverse sides of the floats that also have learning material. This project has a lot of materials that will assist with learning letters. I find that the children will enjoy hands on activities; such as sorting through sand, buckets and other containers to find different letters. This will also be a great time to focus on the difference in a lower case verse capital letter. There is a kit in this project that connects individual letters together to create words. We will use these items to first identify letters as we learn the letters and the letter sounds we will begin to create simple words and even use this connecting letters to spell out student names and more! My students will be able to look at examples of how letters are written and they can use their fingers to create their very own letter. This will help with children learn the basic skills to writing out each letter of the alphabet. I find that identifying and recognizing letters, numbers, shapes and colors are very important factors to cover when working with young children. Please assist my students with our learning and recognizing classroom project.
