Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

This coming school year I have the honor of teaching reading to an entire group of amazing second grade scholars! These students work so hard to reach the expectations I set for them. I want to ensure that I am doing my part to provide them with world class instruction daily!

I teach in a Title I school where most of the students receive free lunch.

That means these children come from families with incomes at or below the poverty level. When I pick my students up from the cafeteria every morning, I make sure to greet them with a smile and virtual greeting. We always begin our class with a mood meter to ensure all students feel heard and loved.

I want to foster a love for reading and learning in my students. I also want them to have the confidence to take risks and know that they can do whatever they set their minds to.

My Project

With the learning deficit due to COVID-19, I have a wide range of learning abilities in my 2nd grade classroom. I want to be able to target all of my scholars' needs in their independent work folders. I will use my classroom printer to print reading activities and passages that students are able to work on with me and independently.

These resources will allow me to target each child's learning on their reading level.

Once the skill has been mastered, they will be able to take the activity home to show to their family.

When students are able to master a skill on their independent level, they feel a sense of success that is necessary for their educational growth. These resources will give them the opportunity to grow and succeed!
