My students need hands-on experiences with kinestheic learning. Physically handling Keva blocks builds a fundamental understanding of quantities, equality, geometry, etc. These will help students work with problem solving strategies and stem learning.

My school is a title I school. All of the students in our school receive free breakfast and lunch. The students come to school ready and needing to learn. Many of the parents are unable to provide extra learning tools due to their economic situations. Our school is comprised of 90% African American students. We have a large population of students that are transient and homeless. They love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! So many different ways to learn and explore and my students grow with each experience.
Keva Planks in the library will allow the students to expand their creativity and work with others as well as problem solve. When working with Keva Planks, attention spans lengthen, concentration intensifies, creativity is focused, voices are muted, teamwork happens, excitement builds, projects flow, and children yearn to learn. Children who play with blocks tend to do better in mathematics and science. Physically handling the blocks builds a fundamental understanding of quantities, equality, geometry, etc.
Research is revealing the importance of playing with blocks.
So many of our students do not really play other than with video games and hands on learning is essential. Block play is open-ended, and its possibilities are limitless. Even as children grow and develop new interests and abilities, blocks continue to be an active creative learning tool. They may not be as sophisticated as some toys but they are ideal for learning because they involve the child as a whole. how they move their muscles, the way they discover how different objects feel in their hands, the way they think about spaces and shapes, and the way they develop thoughts and interests of their own. Help us expand our students minds and experiences with Keva blocks.
