My Pre-K students are four and five years of age, and they are excited to have their first school experience. They are part of a Title I, inner-city school located within a community with an economically disadvantaged population. Our school provides free breakfast and lunch for the students.
Most of the families have a first language other than English, and our program is designed to immerse the students in English and prepare them for kindergarten.
The desire for the students to do well academically is a goal that is shared through our school community. The parents, students, and staff all work together to build a true sense that education is important.
My Project
The iRobot- Roomba vacuum will give my students the opportunity at their young age to see how robots function. I want to teach my students how robots are responsible and how they can be too. Our classroom has about 30% tile flooring and 70% carpet.
My students learn through hands on, and as you can imagine there is always something falling off the tables (play dough, scraps of paper, macaroni, cotton balls, etc).
Our room gets dirty quickly! The robot will allow me to show them how to program something and see the benefits of what the robots can do. By having the iRobot-Roomba robot, it will teach my students coding, and learn how to be responsible for cleaning up after themselves. They will also get their first-hand experience with robots and their effectiveness.
