Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The students I see are the ones with some of the most challenging and complex behaviors and complicated home lives. They come to my office to build emotion regulation skills, attention/focus skills, and social skills.

It is important for students to learn about their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors at a young age.

My students often have high ACES scores and need the tools to process experienced traumas.

Every student learns differently, so it's important to teach with various methods and hands-on!

My Project

Behavior is a form of communication. These students are trying to communicate with us- I don't feel safe, I need a break, I am sad, etc.

My students need these various tools to learn in unconventional ways about their emotions and how to regulate them.

As we are able to regulate our emotions, we can begin to process and heal from our traumas.

As we process our traumas, we can begin to be present in the moment- to gain friendships, to learn academics, etc.

I am a school social worker and my project is to allow students the safe space to feel and grow.
