Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is in Silver Spring, MD and has a very special attendance area. The students in our school come from very diverse backgrounds. Many of our families are new to the country and are learning to adjust to a different way of life. In many of their homes, English is not spoken as the primary language, but that does not come in between how hard they work.
Our students come to school each day with a smile on their face and ready to learn.
These students want to be at school and they want to learn! They are excited about learning new things and they make me want to come and help them reach their full potential every day!
My Project
These days Math is getting put on the back burner, but that is not where it belongs! Instead, we need to remember how important it is. My class needs a Math library so we can continue to strengthen Math skills and content knowledge.
Math libraries are the birth place of future mathematicians.
It inspires, stimulates and equips them to follow the footprints of great mathematicians. Students today tend to struggle with basic Math concepts, but a Math library could be used in small group, whole group, and independent instruction.
This library would be perfect for read alouds for my whole class to introduce concepts. It could be used in small groups for reading, responding to text, and reviewing skills. They could also be used by students independently to practice critical thinking strategies. And the best part is, they could also be used to strengthen literacy for the student that LOVES math!
