My students need the Health & Safety and the Food & Nutrition Theme Box, Melissa & Doug Wooden Tea Set and Coffee Maker Sets to learn about health and nutrition in a hands-on way.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are in a Title I preschool and 100% of our students receive free lunch. Many of the students have a parent in the military. The children must meet at-risk criteria to attend this program. The criteria includes family income, identified disabilities, parent employment, and English proficiency.
I provide a creative classroom environment with materials in the learning centers that are empowering students through art.
I also provide science, technology, engineering, and math activities. I believe this will prepare all my students to be successful in kindergarten and beyond.
My Project
My students need new ways to learn about nutrition and health. I want to use the Lakeshore theme kits to teach the health, safety, and nutrition content throughout our learning centers. The children will learn how to stay safe and develop healthy habits with the comprehensive, hands-on lessons that come in the kit. It includes materials such as a stethoscope and safety signs to help the children explore health and safety in-depth. They can also learn about fruits, vegetables, grains and more with the nutrition kit. They also need the realistic food props, shopping lists, and fun food puzzles that come in the kit.
The coffee maker, hot cocoa kit, and alphabet soup sorters will allow them to play in dramatic play and role play how people get their nutrients in today’s busy world.
They will have the opportunity to set up a hot chocolate stand and sever the community health hot beverages and nutritious snacks. All these activities will help the students learn in all of their curriculum areas, from math to dramatic play.
