My Project

My 12:1:1 alternate assessment classroom is filled with students who have been diagnosed with varying forms of Autism Spectrum Disorders, Learning Disabilities, and Emotional Disturbances. As part of our regular instruction, we take a whole-student approach to education that teaches more than just the state-prescribed curriculum. As part of our regular instruction, we take a whole-student approach to education that teaches more than just classroom foundations, we teach the whole student with career and art exploration. We teach about culture and ways people around the world express themselves to teach the whole student. As part of our class, we dive into culture and art eras that have impacted all people on our planet. Furthermore, in order to enter to enhance and grow the whole student, we do multimedia projects and biographies on pertinent Artists, like Van Gogh, Jackson Pollack, and Andy Warhol so the students become aware of things that happen in their community and across the world and learn how to express themselves through art!

As a teacher, it is important to make sure we are preparing individuals to enter the world and become productive citizens by teaching them the culture and art of the world.
