My Students

Do you remember what it was like the first time you enjoyed reading a good book that put you in control? My students have not yet discovered thrilling books that capture their imaginations, but they have also not read the "Nook Book", a book that will open their imaginations to a whole new world.

I have seventeen wonderful special education students who enjoy listening to exciting and advantageous stories.

The only problem is that my students cannot read alone. Most of my students are performing way below grade level in literacy and numeracy. The younger students have more of a problem when trying to read and write what's on the big computer screen in front of them. Also, they have a problem when they are having to look up at the computer screen and then look down to find the numbers on the keyboard or calculator, and then have to look back up at the screen to make sure that the number is the correct one to click on. It would be so much easier for them if they could look down at an ebook or a tablet computer and follow as the story is being read, or a math problem is being answered with a just gentle touch.

My Project

Most of my students have a problem when trying to read stories the screen. It would be so much easier for them if they could look down as if they were reading a regular hard or soft copy book, follow as the story is being read, and relax at their own individual desk. The Nook Book would put them in control of their learning. When they are ready to go to the next page, all they have to do is simply touch the screen. They wouldn't have to wait for me to tell them to go on or turn to the next page because with the Nook Book. They will be in control of their reading or math. This will increase their comprehension, literacy, and numeracy skills.

The Techno-Touch project will allow students the opportunity to be in control of their own learning.

Plus, the Techno-Touch project will keep the students highly motivated and actively engaged in thrilling and advantageous stories. As the "Nook Book" reads stories to the students, this will increase their comprehension, literacy, and numeracy skills. I believe we will see an increase in students' state assessment scores.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
