This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am working with 64 Fourth Grade students in an urban school district. The population of my students living in poverty is 98%. The students in my classes are a genuinely diverse community. Not only do students come from varying ethnic backgrounds, but the life experiences that they’ve had are incredibly unique.
Many of my students come from unsafe traumatic environments and learning can be challenging for them.
They are intellectual social and emotional beings with a desire to be learning in a safe environment.
They take pride in their efforts and are willing to challenge their minds for the sake of learning. Yes, they are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite these challenges, they thrive on creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
The product I selected Wisconsin Studies Weekly will enhance my students' ability to have creative and engaging learning experiences that inspire their learning of their state. Magazine/newspaper literature is a new experience for them and they will enjoy learning about their state through this type of literature. I want to show my students that there are multiple types of literature to gain knowledge from not just through books and online resources.
Wisconsin Studies Weekly will teach my students about the history of their state, the economics of their state, the government of their state and more.
This publication will reach all Common Core state standards for fourth grade Wisconsin studies.
