I teach 7th, 8th, and 9th grade Special Education students. Our students have special needs that encompass everything from behavioral, physical, social/emotional, and intellectual disabilities. Their disabilities range from sever to mild-moderate. I have 90 special needs students with 18-20 in each class. Each student is unique in their abilities and I love all their little quirks. I try to find ways to help them that support their needs without singling them out from their peers.
Our special needs students suffer from high anxiety and stress levels.
Most, if not all, of our students have difficulty focusing, they fidget, and they have difficulty sitting for periods of time which impacts their ability to learn.
Fidget devices and seat aids help our students be more successful in the classroom by aiding the student to focus, stay in their seat, and get their wiggles out which lowers their anxiety and stress levels and they can focus better on their tasks while being less disruptive so they can maximize their learning opportunities. Also, other students can also be more focused in class when our special needs students have the tools to help them stay engaged in learning.
My Project
Resource (Special Education students) classes in a public school setting will use the materials to help students lower stress and anxiety. The materials will help student focus for periods of time so they can participate constructively and maximize their learning capabilities.
