My students need hands-on materials, such as pollution and waste lab supplies and a soil nutrients and fertilizer kit to help understand the importance of our water, our soil, and our planet.

My Students

Our students live in an extremely rural area, and we are a Title I school. Most students understand the logistics behind growing a garden and preparing food to eat both instantly and later. Unfortunately the study of our planet and our environment takes a back seat.

As I mentioned, the students are familiar with some forms of using the environment to help feed their families, but as for conserving the environment, learning where and when to plant and other necessary information is usually not shared with the students.

The parents usually just handle that without explaining it to the children. Many students come from households where higher education is limited, but almost all of them could learn from their parents regarding soil testing, water conservation and more.

My Project

I have requested supplies to test the soil, identify various leaves and plants that grow near the school and to learn how to use the environment to our benefit and then give back to the environment so the people can continue to use the same resources. One of the best ways to teach children about a particular activity is by allowing them to do so with hands-on activities. These supplies will most definitely help our students do this.

With the rising cost of food, fuel and electricity, many students hear the conversation regarding conservation but do not understand what and how they can help.

With the supplies to test the water, the soil and more, we can start to teach students at a young age the importance of using our environment but also how to preserve it.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
