Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It's hard to focus on learning when your emotional and physical needs are not always met. Almost all of my students live below the poverty line. Their families all work hard to provide for them, but many still struggle to cover basic needs such as housing, food and clothing. Students frequently come to school hungry and tired due to little resources in the home such as breakfast or a bed to sleep on. Many basic school supplies such as folders or gym shoes are not in the budget for our families.
Many students feel hopeless about their ability to succeed in school.
My students are eager to learn, but frequently doubt their abilities. Many of these kids are learning English as a second or even as a third language. Please consider supporting these great kids reach their full potential and believe in themselves.
My Project
My students are learning to read, write, and speak English. Many of these students are very far behind where our education system says they should be. Our reading program, READ 180, is an evidence-based program that helps students learn quickly. In order to use this program, students need working headsets for listening to and then speaking letters sounds, words, and passages of English. Our classroom currently only has 6 headsets that work for 20+ students a class period!
Please help ensure each of my students have a working headset to practice their English with.
Families in our district are not able to provide these for their children so the responsibility falls to me.
