Learn Through Imagination

My students need a career costume set, dress-up tree, and two housecleaning sets.

I teach at a Title One school. Over 94% of my students receive free lunch. I have 17 wonderful kindergartners, 9 of them are girls and 8 are boys.

When you ask yourself, "What was the one thing I liked about kindergarten?" Many will say they remember dressing up and pretending to be someone else. My students do not have the outfits to dress up with. Pretend play also helps with social, emotional, and language skills. My students do not have the chance to pretend outside of school, many of them will just watch TV. and not use their mind. My students have shown a particular interest in the different careers that they can have when they grow up. In the home center and the block center my students will pretend to be police officers or teachers or a nurse. I think the costumes will help my students to think outside of the box and use their imagination.

My students have shown a great interest in the home center in my classroom. They pretend to be police officers, fire fighters, etc. Young children learn by imagining and doing. Research has shown that pretend play provides children with a microcosm for life that encourages them to take the skills they learned in the classroom and apply them to life activities. I will need a career costume set for my classroom. This will help my students think outside of the box and really get into character. These materials will not only help with their social skills but also their writing creativity. They will be able to write about their stories after playing in the center. Many students have lost their creativity because they watch to much TV. and this will help my students think in different ways.

You will make it possible for my students to use their imagination and develop skills in many essential developmental areas. In kindergarten, pretend play is very important for the development of a child. A child who uses their imagination in play will then take their experience and write a story about it during writing.
