My Project

This year, our school started a Social Studies Lab as a related arts activity. In my classroom, we learn about communities, careers, community helpers, rules, laws, maps, locations and much more. These are difficult concepts to understand, especially with the young students we work with. For this project, I would like to add a STEM center area in my classroom for students to use hands-on materials to enrich what they are learning about in the lab.

It is the goal of the Social Studies Lab for each student to leave with the understanding of Social Studies concepts and an increased knowledge of cultural studies.

Students will be able to...

-Identify places on a map and American symbols with the help of an atlas and figure playsets.

-Recognize community helpers and their modes of transportation through an activity rug and play vehicles

-Design and engineer places and building in different communities with stacking blocks and magnetic tiles

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
