Learn Language by Listening to Beautiful and Inspiring Stories
Help me give my students a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card and stories to fill their brains with images, magic, and vocabulary words that they don't get to hear about in their everyday conversations.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Speech and language therapy relies so much on students' interest and desire to flee real, unexciting, everyday subjects that fill conversations. I am hoping that I can awaken my students' love for books, reading, and listening to stories with these new books. Teaching language through literacy is proven to increase their vocabulary, ability to understand, retell and take perspectives of others. I love seeing my students become excited about a story and wanting more! I also feel like books are a great way to prepare them for holidays, so they can be prepared and feel more in control of each celebration by knowing what to expect. I am hoping to also get “book companions” for each one of these books through Teachers Pay Teachers and have a series of speech and language specific activities along with every book.
