I teach in a productive, rural school system that strives to meet the common and individual needs of each and every one of our students. Our elementary school houses grades pre-k through sixth with a total of around three hundred and fifty learners who come to school ready to learn no matter their interest, abilities and learning styles. We constantly strive to improve to ensure that we are providing our students with experiences that will prepare them to be productive students and citizens throughout their lives.
Specifically, I teach first grade and it is important for me to always make sure they are provided with every opportunity and every resource they need to be able to learn, work, and grow as students.
My classroom is the home of twenty-five, eager learners. I teach all subject areas. I often use differentiated instruction to ensure I am meeting all of my students' needs.
Because many come to me from low-income families, many students lean on me and our school to provide them with what they need to learn.
As a teacher, I get to walk around my classroom, sit in different spots and talk with different students throughout the day. I would go crazy if I had to sit in one spot all day, day after day. And yet, this is the expectation that we put on our students everyday! I want to redesign my classroom so that my students can move throughout the day to new "learning" spots and at the same time, collaborate with different peers as we work through different lessons!
Not all students were created to sit in one place for seven hours!
Students will be able to choose the spot that they thrive in. They will have choice throughout the day to work where and with whom they need to. Flexible seating is the new and rising trend in classrooms. Please help me give this to my students.
