Help me give my students a complete class set with 15 additional copies of "Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You," by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi to enhance our study of United States history.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are bright, curious, and love to read! They enjoy researching and learning about history. Our school, located in Philadelphia, provides students with one of the only opportunities for students of color to receive an International Baccalaureate education within the public school setting.
However, many of our students lack access to books outside of the classroom making it difficult for them to nurture their curiosity and love of reading.
They love borrowing books from our classroom libraries, as we do not have a school library. In class, they are always excited to discuss their perspectives on what we read and research. Everyone is thrilled when we receive new books!
My Project
My students have an insatiable need to know why society is the way it is and have a strong desire to make changes necessary for a better and more just society.
Adding "Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You" to our 8th grade Social Studies curriculum will provide representation in the content and will put us on the right path to meet the need for equality and racial justice.
This book will serve as a launching pad for the hope that things can change and will give students ideas about projects they can participate in, in order to shape the world into how they envision it.
